HBO ANNOUNCES MANDRAKE SPECIAL START OF PRODUCTION

Posted on 2012-01-23
Sao Paulo, January 26th, 2012 – HBO Latin America announced its start of production for a special sequel to successful Brazilian series Mandrake. The special will once again feature Marcos Palmeira, Miéle, Marcelo Serrado and Erika Mader in their original roles, as well as other standout actors such as Carlos Alberto Riccelli, Esther Góes and Claudia Ohana set to portray new characters.

“Mandrake was one of the first shows we produced in Brazil with premium HBO quality. Since the show was well received by the public, it just made sense to bring it back, as we did with Alice in 2010,” stated Luís F. Peraza, Executive Vice President of Original Productions and Acquisitions for HBO Latin America.

Directed by José Henrique Fonseca, the special picks up a short time after last season’s conclusion. Criminal defense attorney Mandrake (Marcos Palmeira) is seemingly depressed as a result of the crisis he experiences alongside his friend and coworker, Wexler (Miéle). Nevertheless, an incentive from Bebel (Erika Mader) to acquire a millionaire businessman as a client resuscitates the Mandrake of yesteryear. It is this newfound client who will bring several new players, as well as countless twists and turns, to the table.

The special, consisting of two 90-minute parts, is filmed entirely in Río de Janeiro; locations included El Centro, Copacabana and Barra da Tijuca. Mandrake is produced by HBO Latin America Originals in association with Brazilian producer, Goritzia Filmes.
