The HBO Latin America Original Series JOINT VENTURE, will premiere in over 70 countries this August

São Paulo, July 24 2019JOINT VENTURE, the new original Brazilian production for HBO, premieres on August 9th at 21:00hrs on HBO and HBO GO. Directed by Quico Meirelles, the series, which takes place in a fictional São Paulo where marijuana has been legalized, will have ten one-hour episodes. In addition to premiering in the Caribbean, the production will also air in all of Latin America, the United States and in parts of Europe and Africa, ultimately reaching more than 70 countries.

JOINT VENTURE tells the story of Biriba (Luis Navarro), a drug trafficker who leaves his criminal past behind and uses his knowledge to sell the product legally along with the help of his inexperienced investment partner, Vini (Daniel Furlan). Biriba must deal with the countless challenges in the business world and the weight of his past as a drug trafficker, which includes his relationship with his best friend Salim (Henrique Santana), who continues to breach the law.

The series also includes performances by actress and singer Leilah Moreno, and actors Teca Pereira, Bruno Giordano, Sabrina Petraglia and Maria Zilda Bethlem, among others. These casted actors and actresses were picked from 2,600 people who answered an ad asking aspiring actors, whom were at the start of their careers, to send in home videos from their cell phones. Actor Henrique Santana, who was born and raised in the outskirts of the East Zone of São Paulo, was one of those actors who responded to the ad.

The HBO Latin America original production is told under the general direction of Quico Meirelles, along with directors Fernando Meirelles, Luis Carone y Rodrigo Pesavento. JOINT VENTURE is produced by Luis F. Peraza, Roberto Rios and Eduardo Zaca for HBO Latin America Originals, and Andrea Barata Ribeiro, Bel Berlinck and Fernando Meirelles for O2 Films. The script is written by Cauê Laratta, Chico Mattoso, Marcelo Starobinas and Mariana Trench. The series is created entirely by HBO Latin America’s own investments.
