HBO makes history with 137 primetime Emmy® nominations

HBO has received 137 Primetime Emmy® nominations, breaking records with the highest number in HBO history, and making this its ninth consecutive year in which it receives 100 or more. The announcement was made today in Los Angeles.

GAME OF THRONES set an Emmy® record with the most nominations in a single year after receiving 32 nominations. Also highlighted was the original limited series CHERNOBYL, received 19 nominations, while the comedy series BARRY was recognized with 17 nominations. VEEP, TRUE DETECTIVE and LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER received 9 nominations each.

HBO original films BREXIT, DEADWOOD and MY DINNER WITH HERVÉ, as well as the original documentaries JANE FONDA IN FIVE ACTS, LEAVING NEVERLAND and THE INVENTOR: OUT FOR BLOOD IN SILICON VALLEY were also recognized. 

The winners of the 71st annual Primetime Emmy® Awards will be announced on September 22nd in Los Angeles.

· 17 nominations for BARRY, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Bill Hader), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Sarah Goldberg), 3 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Anthony Carrigan, Stephen Root, Henry Winkler), 2 for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Alec Berg, Bill Hader) and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Alec Berg and Bill Hader).

· 9 nominations for LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series (Paul Pennolino), Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Interactive Program.

· 9 nominations for TRUE DETECTIVE, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Mahershala Ali).

· 9 nominations for VEEP, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Hale), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Anna Chlumsky), Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (Peter MacNicol) and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (David Mandel)

· 5 nominations for SUCCESSION, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Adam McKay) and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (Jesse Armstrong).

Other HBO nominees include BALLERS, BREXIT, THE CASE AGAINST ADNAN SYED, FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS: LIVE IN LONDON, GAME OF THRONES: THE LAST WATCH, INSECURE, THE INVENTOR: OUT FOR BLOOD IN SILICON VALLEY, JANE FONDA IN FIVE ACTS and MY DINNER WITH HERVÉ, among others.

In addition, the MAX series WARRIOR received a nomination for Outstanding Main Title Design.
